The Fear of Uncertainty
I recently came across a Forbes article that resonated so well with me. One portion of it in particular struck a cord. Here it is:
So many of us get stuck in what other people expect of us. We are trained to stay in the safe zone and avoid risk even when our lives are devoid of what truly excites us. I’m pleased to say that my new business venture in building a home renovation business was a MAJOR risk. Here’s the nonsensical thoughts that almost stopped me from doing it:
1. “What if people won’t hire me as a speaker because I’m running a business not related to my current niche market?”
2. “What will my friends and family think since I’ve changed my supposed career path multiple times?”
3. “Will clients take me seriously since my educational background is in health care?”
And on top of all that negative self talk many people i told about my new business literally laughed when I told them the name of the business: Handyman Home Projects.
Well, I’m pleased to report that this risk was well worth it both financially and in personal satisfaction.
While this is a GREAT success story, I have also failed more times than I can count. The lessons I learned from those failures are what I’m now using to succeed.
I suggest you jump on board with letting go of a fear of uncertainty. It’s okay to fail.
For those of you who choose to stay in your bubble and make fun of those who just jump into uncertainty…kiss it.
Thank you very much. 😁
