Being Triggered by Your Past
When I wrote my book Overcoming Emotional Trauma I did so with the intention of expanding my work and helping others.
But it ended up being something that helped me develop a deeper level of awareness.
And as a result of my own personal struggles, today I am being reminded of the importance of character development. It is one thing to become aware of how your past impacts your present, but it is another to CONSISTENTLY and RELENTLESSLY pursue personal development through CHOOSING who you want to be and what you want in your life. You choose by surrounding yourself with those who support you and make you better. You choose by not giving in to the negative thoughts.
You choose by being honest with yourself so that you can be honest with others. This is hard work, but it is more than worth it. Being triggered by your past does not have to define your current behaviors.
The happiness and joy that comes from giving the world your best version of yourself feels so much better than negative self talk that comes from allowing the past to weigh you down.
Being triggered by the past can put you back into old patterns, damage relationships and ruin whatever growth you have been working towards. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck there forever, it just means you need to open your eyes and become who you’re meant to be.
I am being reminded of this today and I am choosing to not allow triggers from the past to control my today any longer.
I am choosing to. Will you?
…Here’s an old post from this same topic. Sometimes we need reminders.
